Dental Implants
Many consider dental implants to be the best tooth replacement option available. Because they offer strength, functionality and aesthetic beauty, it’s no wonder so many people choose implants to fill the gaps in their smiles. However, how do you care for dental implants once you get them? Keep reading to learn more.
Caring for Your New Smile
Although your new dental implants don’t require any special care, there are some things you can do to keep them looking their best and help them last a lifetime:
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush—To avoid scratching your implants, brush with a soft nylon brush.
- Floss every day—To keep plaque from building up around your implants, floss between them at least once a day.
- Avoid abrasive products—To avoid discomfort or sensitivity, use toothpaste and mouthwash for sensitive teeth.
- Avoid hard and sticky foods—Certain foods can damage your implants, so it’s best to avoid hard candy, caramel, crunchy bread, steak, apples and carrots.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol—While your mouth is healing, it’s best to avoid tobacco and alcohol, as they can slow the healing process.
- Visit your Roseville dentist—Arrange a dental examination every six months to keep your mouth as healthy as possible.

Handling Dental Emergencies in Roseville
Some of the common tooth emergencies Dr Yang and her team can help with are:
- Broken or lost restorations like fillings and crowns
- Knocked-out (avulsed) teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Toothaches or dental pain
- Abscessed or infected teeth
- Facial swelling and pain
Toothaches, facial pain, and swelling are all telltale indicators of a tooth infection, and the critical thing to understand about an infection is that it will not resolve on its own. So, if you're experiencing the kind of pain that keeps you awake at night or are unable to complete your regular daily tasks, you should seek treatment from an emergency dentist as soon as you can.
An untreated tooth infection can lead to further discomfort, damage, and tooth loss and even impact other critical areas of your body.
Even if it's your first visit to Roseville Dental and Implants, we welcome new patients and are well-equipped to help during a tooth emergency.

Orthodontic Treatment
At Roseville Dental and Implants, orthodontic treatments - including braces and clear aligners like Invisalign - start from $6,000.
Whether you choose clear aligners with Invisalign, Spark, or braces, it's essential to maintain your daily home care routine throughout your treatment to ensure you achieve the best results. Tooth brushing and flossing do differ a bit depending on your treatment method. Here's what you should know.
Home Care with Clear Aligners
One benefit of clear aligners is that you can remove them for brushing and flossing, keeping your home care routine simple. However, it is also important to rinse your aligners and your mouth between meals to keep plaque from building up inside your aligners.
We recommend that patients carry a soft toothbrush and mouth rinse for meals when they're not at home.
Oral Hygiene with Traditional Braces
Brushing and flossing around brackets and wires is a bit trickier than just removing clear aligners. The brackets are attached to your teeth, so you'll need to brush over and around them to effectively remove plaque and food debris. An electric toothbrush is very helpful in this process.
You'll use floss threaders to pull the floss under the wires and between the brackets so you can floss your teeth and keep your gums healthy during treatment. Our team will show you how to brush and floss around braces effectively.
We are excited to offer traditional braces and orthodontic treatment in Roseville with clear aligners to give our patients excellent options for straightening teeth.
Preventive Dentistry
Periodontal (gum) disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults over age thirty. Your best defence against gum disease is a consistent home care routine and regular visits to your Roseville dentist every six months for teeth cleans and checks.
Treating Gingivitis
Early gum disease is known as gingivitis, and it can be hard to spot on your own. Some early signs you may notice are:
- Bleeding gums, especially during brushing or flossing
- Chronic bad breath you can't eliminate
- Red, irritated, or swollen gums
When we detect gingivitis early, you may be able to successfully treat your condition with an enhanced home care routine and a thorough professional teeth clean. Some patients are even able to reverse it.
Treating Periodontitis
Advanced gum disease is known as periodontitis. At this stage, you may notice that your teeth feel mobile, there is pain or discomfort when biting or chewing food, and you may see visible gum recession.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for periodontitis, but we can help you control your condition. Depending on your needs, Dr Yang may recommend deep cleaning to remove the plaque and tartar buildup below the gumline that is causing your infection. She may also suggest antibiotic therapy or gum surgery for severe cases.
Root Canal Treatment
Many patients are worried about root canal treatment causing pain or discomfort. This is likely because this treatment is often associated with the pain caused by the infection in your tooth.
We're here to dispel the myth that root canal treatment is painful because it's just not true. A root canal actually alleviates your pain, eliminates tooth infection, and protects your tooth from extraction.
What Happens During Root Canal Treatment?
If you need a root canal, you likely suffer from a painful tooth infection. Dr Yang will immediately relieve your pain at the start of treatment with a local anaesthetic to numb the infected tooth. This also ensures you don't feel anything during your procedure.
Next, she carefully removes the infected tissue from your tooth with flexible, electric hand tools that make the procedure smooth, comfortable, and efficient. When she's sure the tooth is free from infection, she will seal it with a temporary dental filling and allow it time to heal fully.
Once it's healed, you'll return to Roseville Dental and Implants for a permanent crown or filling to rebuild and strengthen your tooth, ensuring you have full chewing function again.
We welcome your call if you need more information on root canals in Roseville.
Tooth Extraction
Our team supports you throughout your recovery when you have a tooth extracted. We'll send you home with specific instructions for your care, but here are some general tips and guidelines to remember.
After Care for Tooth Extraction
Immediately after your surgery, you can control bleeding by biting down on gauze. Dr Yang will direct you on how to manage pain with prescription-strength or over-the-counter medication. We recommend that you rest as much as possible during the first few days after surgery.
Stick to soft foods consumed at room temperature for the first few days. Hot temperatures could irritate your extraction site. Here are some ideas for comfortable foods to eat:
- Scrambled eggs
- Soup
- Smoothies
- Oatmeal
- Applesauce
Things to Avoid for 72 Hours After Surgery
Avoid using a straw or smoking cigarettes for at least 72 hours after surgery, which can dislodge the blood clot protecting your extraction site from an uncomfortable situation called dry socket.
It's also important to avoid vigorous exercise or activity for the first few days after surgery. Taking plenty of time to rest and heal will help you have a smooth and comfortable recovery.
We always encourage our patients to contact our Roseville dental clinic if they have questions or concerns about their tooth extraction or recovery.
